Ok (crying already) so some 20+ years ago my mum is driving, me & my little sister in our mini-van & were traveling to Maine on our yearly summer trip. There is a long stretch of highway that its just all go, going fast, its an oddly bland spot that everything around seems grey, the woods stop so far away from the highway & its so flat. I unbuckled (I know) & leaned forward to speak to my mum, I asked her something & then was pulling back to rebuckle & I looked ahead, & saw a large flock of Canada Geese about to come onto the road up ahead of us on a bend. I just registered what they were before my mum & I started screaming, STOP MUM STOP YOU HAVE TO STOP! I know its a cliché but it was slow motion, I FELT she had time, but I know she didn't & she couldn't. She was trapped in the lane, she would have had to drive off the road to avoid them, she couldn't slow down quickly or slam on the brakes because of me, my sister, the cars behind her & the luggage on the roof. It felt like ages & she just kept saying to me "I'm sorry, I can't I'm sorry". She pushed over into the next lane as much as she could safely but it wasn't enough & she hit the lead goose, I can still hear the thump, I shouldn't have but I turned around to look & saw the hit goose & the rest of the flock rush to it in the road, last thing I remember clearly is the big brown pickup truck coming at them. I was furious with my mum the rest of the day, crying the rest of the drive as she apologized & said we couldn't go back (Yes I know, I was an emotional kid then, an emotional adult now) Im 39 this year,, I didn't then but now I KNOW my mum did absolutely everything she could & would have done more if possible. What you did has already helped those kids (And kind driver) process the helplessness & unfair feelings. You asked the only person you needed to, the driver & she had no issues helping while safe. This cold-hearted person waited until everything was sorted, not helping, to say anything, which was ridiculous. I would urge you to report this person to whomever is appropriate, yelling & name calling is bad, then add doing it with an audience. Please don't let this slide, this employee is not in the right & shouldn't get to brag they are, something could tick this guy off on the next unsuspecting person. You did something amazing & kind, I hope you can feel how proud people are of you. I look forward to all the updates. xxx
